Our Story

In 1993, Susan Place and partner David Everhart founded Ionis International in Boulder, Colorado to provide practical training programs to U.S. and Japanese businesses with the straightforward goal of helping these firms improve the productivity of their intercultural business relationships.

In 1993, David Everhart and business partner Susan Place founded Ionis International in Boulder, Colorado to provide practical training programs to U.S. and Japanese businesses with the straightforward goal of helping these firms improve the productivity of their intercultural business relationships.

We quickly expanded our scope to include the Asia-Pacific region and India, and enjoyed many years of success in helping U.S. and Asia-based companies enhance their international business performance through our training programs and consultation services. We led multi-day executive education courses around the globe as well as longer-term experiential immersion programs for corporate executives of up to four weeks in length.

We then put Ionis in “sleep mode” for several years while both Mr. Everhart and Ms. Place took global leadership roles externally.  During this time Mr. Everhart held regional and global general management roles in Asia-Pacific, in the U.S., and in the U.K. with large consulting organizations. He successfully built, integrated, and re-structured multicultural teams from operational bases in Shanghai, Colorado, and London.

In addition to his leadership responsibilities, Mr. Everhart oversaw relationships with dozens of clients in a variety of industries, and personally managed the design and delivery of global leadership and talent consulting, assessment, and development solutions in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Asia-Pacific. These projects put him in daily contact with regional and global business executives- including many CEOs- across a wide range of industries.

Meanwhile, Ms. Place turned her career towards the international development sector, providing leadership and global management skills to projects and organizations in China, Haiti and the UK, with a particular focus on women’s rights and empowerment.  She currently serves as COO of an international women’s rights NGO based in London.

In 2019 David decided to once again lead Ionis International to provide high quality client-centered services focused on building effective global leaders, high-performing multicultural teams and inclusive organizations capable of maximizing the full potential of their international talent.

Over the years Ionis has evolved to meet the changing needs of our clients, but our mission remains the same: increase the level of inclusive, respectful international economic interdependence by providing high-quality leadership consulting, coaching and learning solutions to our customers around the world.
